Aart Strootman and the Stargaze Quartet perform the work of kindred spirit annex festival composer Bryce Dessner. His Quintet for high refers to the so-called ’Nashville tuning’ that uses the highest strings of a 12-string guitar. In conjunction, Aart Strootman premieres his work Volvox. It was written for the same combination of instruments and commissioned by November Music. For the unusual title, Strootman took the name of polyphyletic green algae in a spherical colony, which is capable of extraordinary roll motions.
