During the pandemic, many musicians were forced to engage in introspection. Live performances were no longer an option but there was every opportunity to muse about the artistic future. Over that period, Marike resided, not completely of her own volition, in Australia. She was awarded the prestigious Composition Commission 2022 by the North Sea Jazz Festival. Her work Stranded is based on this personal experience.
