In 2022, this part of the festival programme, Colours of Improvisation, will see performances by the Dutch jazz composer, bandleader and rising star Tijn Wybenga and the celebrated Tunisian oud player Dhafer Youssef. November Music gave Wybenga carte blanche to write new work for AM.OK. Wybenga creates a daring hybrid music style out of Dutch jazz, Syrian maqam plus South-African ‘gourd-bow’ sounds in his layered composition. A real global star on the Arabian lute. Concerts by the oud player and singer Dhafer Youssef are truly a sensation. The Tunisian consummate musician connects worlds with his inspired string playing as he links jazz, world music, rock, and avant-garde. Youssef constantly seeks out exciting combinations in collaboration with a wide variety of musicians.
